The Best Dinner Rolls

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and butter. Microwave for 1 minute and then let sit until the butter is mostly melted.
  2. In a large bowl or mixer, add half the flour, sugar, egg, yeast, and salt. Mix. Add the liquid mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead 6 to 8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide into 8–12 equal portions. Shape into balls and place in a greased pan.
  6. Cover and let rise again until doubled, 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown. Brush warm rolls with melted butter before serving.

Comments

This is half the recipe. I make it into anywhere from 8 to 12 rolls. The second rise often can take as much as 2 hours. Do not cook on an aluminum pan.
